Stars - Josh Hutcherson
Directed by: Brad Peyton
Summary: Sean Anderson partners with his mom's boyfriend on a mission to find his grandfather, who is thought to be missing on a mythical island.. (via imdb).
The sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth is Fraser-less, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as we get Dwayne (I'm not The Rock anymore) Johnson. Josh Hutcherson reprises his role from the first movie as a yong Vernian searching for his missing grandfather and The Mysterious Island, not necessarily in that order of importance. What ensues is...
... a good use of 3D as a character. There's a lot of "I should just ignore these fits of common sense and plot holes and hang on for the ride" you have to go through as an adult to really enjoy this, but if you're capable of letting go, it's a pretty good movie. Kids should love it, and the actors do a credible job of selling the ridiculousness that will inevitably run through the plot. I have to say I was greatly impressed with the 3D elements. The things that were supposed to pop out of the screen did and didn't seem fake for doing so.
Overall it's a fun movie that doesn't over promise for what it delivers.
